Wake up each day, determined to fill your body with healthy, real food -- that which is God given, not man made. Real food is from the earth or lightly processed. The more you make your own food, even with simple preparation, the more control you have over the health of the food you consume.

A few pointers . . .

  • Eat the rainbow. Fill your diet with colorful fruits and veggies.
  • Eat items rich in nutrients, avoiding empty calories.
  • Focus on your consuming five or more fruits/veggies each day.
  • Plan your meals and snacks so you avoid convenience foods.
  • Increase fiber so you feel fuller.
  • Choose whole grain pasta and brown or wild rice.
  • Choose whole grain breads over white breads.
  • Avoid processed meats, refined sugars and flours, soda, and vegetable oil, as well as fried foods and high fructose corn syrup -- all foods associated with cancer risk.
  • Reduce your sodium intake, a benefit that comes with making more of your meals, and relying less on packaged and take out foods.

Finally, say grace before every meal or snack. Appreciate the bounty God has given us. Treat your body like the vessel God intended it to be.

"Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."
